Cost: $20 per person or $30 per couple. Where: ASDI’s office in Towson, Maryland (near Baltimore and Washington DC) This group meets once a month to offer support and encouragement to both new clients and graduates of former classes. The members are all extremely supportive of each individual’s readiness to approach getting on an aircraft and taking a flight. Support without judgment is a key element of the group dynamic. Feedback from several members indicates that this group was an important factor in their eventual success in the Fear of Flying Class. Those who have attended both the support group and the classes highly recommend attending at least one Support Group meeting before beginning the Fear of Flying Class
Before attending your first meeting, you must set up an initial evaluation session with a licensed ASDI therapist (usually Dr Steve Shearer). This evaluation is an additional cost to be negotiated with the therapist (Insurance may reimburse some of this cost). The current fee is around $150 for a 1 1/2 to 2 hour session. If this presents a financial difficulty, please talk to Dr Shearer before deciding you cannot afford to be seen. The evaluation is deliberately kept as a separate expense from the group so that you may use medical insurance to help defray the costs. You will need to contact your insurance company to find out how much, if any, of the evaluation fee will be covered. Support Group fees are not reimbursable by insurance at this time. Please contact Dr Steve Shearer at 410 938-8452 if you are interested in attending the support group and need to have an evaluation. Questions about the group itself can be directed to Stephnie Thomas (see below). General Information:
